Le Petit Royal Frankfurt, the glamorous little sister restaurant of Berlin’s famed Grill Royal, brings the ultimate “F” game to Frankfurt, French Flair. Situated inside the chic LUME Boutique Hotel, it offers a slice of French sophistication that’s both inviting and wonderfully indulgent. With its white table linens, crisply folded napkins, and an impressive art collection, Le Petit Royal may initially strike you as a bastion of formal dining; however, the staff are warm and welcoming and immediately make you feel at home!
Le Petit Royal Frankfurt Vibe
Le Petit Royal’s vibe is everything you’d expect from a high-end French steakhouse, with a few surprises. This is to say, if the layout is a little understated, the artwork is anything but. Conversation starters hang from the walls, daring you to dive deeper and scratch below the aesthetic surface. Claire Fontaine’s ambiguous ‘I AM YOUR VOICE’ unashamedly glows a bright neon red, a symbol for topics of morality, agency and freedom of speech. Of course, feel free to check in all political conversation and controversy at the door and merely admire!
Menu and Highlights
Granted, French cuisine has a reputation for being a bit intimidating, but don’t let that be a reason not to visit Le Petit Royal. Eddie O’Brien and his team go out of their way to ensure you are well taken care of. From menu recommendations to wine pairings, the team is very well-versed!
In addition to its extensive dinner menu, Le Petit Royal offers a paired-down lunch menu, which is perfect, in our opinion, for a business lunch where you want to impress without breaking the bank. Namely, €29 for a two-course meal or €39 for three courses.
Things that stood out for us. Firstly, the oysters, so fresh they practically transported us to the coast of France. Served with a light vinaigrette, each bite is a salty, sweet “bite” of pure deliciousness for the palate. Next, the beef tartare, prepared with fresh eggs straight from the head chef, Udo Grigas’s farm, creates a rich, velvety texture bursting with flavour.
For steak lovers, the restaurant offers a choice between Kobe and Australian Wagyu beef. Both options are exquisitely marbled and prepared to perfection, offering a melt-in-your-mouth texture and flavour, making this a must-try experience.
And let’s not forget the vegetarians; for a touch of decadence and richness, the truffle risotto is up for the win! The earthy depth of the truffle takes this comfort classic to the next level.
The meal concludes with classic French desserts, and the crème brûlée is as good as it gets. Crack through the caramelised top to reveal a silky, vanilla-infused custard underneath—a sweet ending that’s as satisfying as it is timeless. And finally, what’s French cuisine without the final course and its cheese cart? From mild to pungent, it’s a celebration of cheese that no meal should be without.
Wine: Expanding Your Palate, One Glass at a Time
Le Petit Royal has a wine collection that’s as impressive as its menu, with a cellar of around 388 wines. For those looking to broaden their wine horizons, the restaurant offers the Coravin system, allowing guests to try exceptional wines by the glass. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a curious beginner, this setup lets you taste high-end selections and explore French and international wines without committing to a full bottle or remortgaging your house. It’s an experience that lets you experiment with new flavours, broaden your palate, and discover wines you might never have considered.
