About The Städel Museum
The Städel Museum was established by banker and businessman Johann Friedrich in 1815 as a civic foundation. Also, the museum ranks as Germany’s oldest museum foundation and houses virtually a complete survey of 700 years of European art. Furthermore, the museum collections span from the early fourteenth century to the present with focuses on (but not limited to) the Renaissance, the Baroque and early Modern Art.
Incredibly the Städel collection comprises some 3,100 paintings, 660 sculptures, more than 4,600 photographs and more 100,000 drawings and graphic works.
A day at the museums
Take a leisurely walk along the south side of the museumsufer, stop for a take away coffee, admire the skyline across the river before you make your way into The Städel Museum. Wander its halls, sit on the benches and take the time to admire the art that adorns the walls.
