Not many things beat a relaxed beer garden when the weather is glorious!!  Now, if beer and gardens aren’t your thing and you prefer your lightheadedness from free flowing cocktails and the thin air 😜 high up in the rooftops!  Then, we have just the thing for you!  So, without further a do here are our list of great beer gardens and rooftop bars for your your visiting pleasure!!

BRAUSTIL – Beer garden

Locally brewed beer, you can’t get much better than that! BrauStil, located on Oeder Weg, is a local brewery specialising in handcrafted beers from start to finish. Their entire beer making process is done by hand from malting to fermentation to bottling. They source their raw materials locally as they believe in quality, sustainability and working with locals. They may only have a small selection of beers on tap, however, their small selection is of the highest quality.

BrauStil has an amazing outdoor space and is perfect for those lovely summer evenings. Enjoy the outside area until 10pm, from 10pm drinking must continue inside in their quaint lovely space. Just be sure to be the first one in there or you won’t get a spot. Due to space constraints, it fills up quickly.

If you’re hungry then head next door to Super Bros and order a pizza. They’ll bring it over to you! I know, amazing right!

Opening Hours:

  • Tues-Friday:  4pm – 10pm
  • Sat:  12pm – 10pm
  • Sun:  2pm – 9pm

NIDDASTRAND – Beer garden

What an absolute little oasis (ok minus the the water 😬). Undoubtedly though the sand between your toes and the green polo fields across the way make up for the lack of sea!  Deck chairs, large umbrellas and a designated kids area mean that parents can sit back relax and enjoy the beer on tap.  Also, the ‘brot und wurtz’ coming off the BBQ keep hungry tummies at bay making for an outstanding day out!

Also, having mentioned the polo fields above, if you are interested in watching a game check out Frankfurt Polo Club for their tournament timetable!

Opening Hours:

  • Daily 11am – 12am

Good to know:

  • Niddastrand website
  • It’s easily accessible when cycling along the Nidda River
  • A designated section in the sand for kids with plenty of sand toys available

NAIV – Beer garden

They specialise in craft beer!  And, they have a bajillion to choose from!  Just kidding,  they have around 50 varieties from around the world and 3 in house brews!  Without a doubt there is a beer to satisfy most palettes and if not well there is always wine!

Also, there is an impressive list of tastings to choose from, beer and cheese (here we thought only cheese paired with wine ????), beer vs wine with cheese tasting, whiskey and gin!  The list goes on and on and left our heads reeling at the sheer number of choices available to taste.  Undoubtedly naiv tastings are anything but boring!

Not to be outdone by the impressive variety of beer ‘on tap’, the restaurant serves up a mean dish in a relaxed environment!

Opening Hours:

  • Mon – Friday: 4pm–1am
  • Sat and Sun:  12pm–1am

SCHIFFSMELDESTELLE (SMS) – Beer garden

On the Höchst bank of the Main lies this glorious little spot!  Nicknamed SMS by those that love it you need only be there a few moments to be fully sold on why you stopped!  Once upon a time the location served as the registration location for passing ships, now it serves only to make you smile, enjoy the weather and place a suitable beverage in your hand!  The “Hessian Côte d’Azur”, as named by owners Frank Wellert and his wife Lizza is helped along with large white umbrellas, deck chairs and chilled music playing from the speakers.

Opening Hours:

  • Mon – Friday:  3pm – 10pm
  • Sat and Sun:  12pm – 10pm

GERBERMÜHLE

I considered leaving Gerbermühle off the list because as a result of COVID 19 they have closed the beer garden and instead extended their a la carte menu.  However, the location and setting is just fabulous and still well worth a visit in the relaxed garden setting!

Undoubtedly it is still a perfect ‘pit stop’ for those taking a stroll or a cycle along the river main.  Indulge yourself in Frankfurt classics like ‘Appelwoi’ and ‚Handkäs‘ before continuing on your journey or simply don’t, continue on your journey we mean.

Said to be the site where fabled German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe met his Marianne and gave her his heart.  Set along the south side of the main river it offers a different view of the skyline that you might be used to.

Opening Hours:

Daily 12:00 pm–5:00 pm
Dinner
Daily 5:00 pm–10:00 pm

Good to know:

BEER GARDENS and rooftop bars

CITY BEACH

Walking through the Konstabler parkhaus you may think you’ve been sent on some sort of wild goose chase!  However, I can assure you this is not the case!  Persevere, keep walking, and a piece of tropical magic in the centre of Frankfurt awaits you.  Undoubtedly it’s as though you’ve walked through a gateway portal into a parallel universe.

The rooftop bar is cleverly ‘divided’ into sections with each section providing something different. 2 pools (ok the term pool is used very loosely here as the water only goes as high as your knee) and giant pink flamingos lazily bob up and down as the breeze gently nudges them along. Blue and purple cushions flank the pool offering a comfortable seat as you sit and dip your toes into the aquamarine water, complete the idyllic scene with a cocktail!

If admiring the iconic Dom Romer is your pleasure, grab a deck chair, dig your toes deep into the white sand and watch as the clouds float by behind the gothic cathedral spire.

Hungry?  Move across to the table and chairs and peruse their food menu.

Opening Hours:

  • Mon – Thurs:  12pm – 11pm
  • Friday:  12pm – 12am
  • Sat:  11am – 12am
  • Sun:  11am – 11pm

Good to know:

  • City Beach website
  • As the entire site is outdoor their opening is weather dependent, thus, it’s prudent to check their website which gives you the latest before heading over

LILY’S BAR

Perched high up above Alte Oper in the Sofitel hotel lies Lili’s bar!  The rooftop space is small, intimate and offers a phenomenal view particularly lovely as the sun sets!  However, it is a fairly small space so large groups of friends are perhaps better choosing form some of the larger rooftop bars.  Also, its prime real estate so be prepared to have the prices reflect this!

Opening Hours:

Daily:  12pm – 11pm

Good to know:

SOULMATE ROOFTOP BAR

A newcomer to the rooftop scene is Soulmate cafe rooftop in Bockenheim!  Undoubtedly a brilliant addition to the already popular coffee shop!  It’s the same location as the coffee shop albeit on the rooftop 😉

Opening Hours:

  • Daily 5pm – 10pm

Good to know:

CHICAGO WILLIAMS ROOFTOP BAR

Nestled high up on the Gekko House rooftop lies Chicago Williams Rooftop Bar!  Decking and a large foliage wall are just some of the features helping create the gorgeous contrast against the Frankfurt skyline!  Whether you begin an evening with sundowners on the rooftop and then head down for some traditional American BBQ in Chicago Williams or vice versa is entirely up to you!  Also, feel free to skip dinner and just enjoy the rooftop vibes.

Opening Hours:

  • Mon – Friday:  5pm – 10pm
  • Sat and Sun:  2pm – 10pm

Good to know:

BAR MARMION

Bar Marmion is unlike your usual hotel bars which can often be sterile and lacking in personality!  Perched high up on the 5th floor of the Lindley Hotel the bar oozes old school glamour and charm.  A winding staircase take you up a level to the open rooftop where you look out across the city breath in the ‘Ostend’ vibes!  Furthermore, the bar is an extension of the two resident barmen/operators Malwin Hillier and Torsten Martini and thus you are guaranteed that night out here will always be anything but dull!  Best bit, if you up for an all nighter and literally want to fall into bed, book a room and your wish is Lindleys command!

Opening Hours:

  • Mon – Thurs:  5pm – 1am
  • Fri and Sat:  5pm – 2am
  • Sun:  Closed
