If you’re a fan of racquet sports, and quite frankly, even if you are not, you owe yourself to try Padel at least once!  And with the recent opening of The Padellers in Dreieich, now is the perfect time to get in on the action.  Because Padel has officially landed, and it’s landed in style just outside Frankfurt, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a welcoming community. Having played both tennis and squash, I thought I knew what to expect!  However, it was insanely more fun than I could have imagined, and now I’m hooked!  And here’s why I recommend you try Padel in Frankfurt for yourself.

What Makes Padel So Addictive?

1. The Perfect Fusion of Tennis and Squash

If you’re familiar with tennis or squash, you’ll pick up the basics of padel in no time. Notably though, the court is smaller, surrounded partly by glass and partly by MMA-style cage walls. Now you definitely intrigued 😉. However, I’m pleased to report Padel takes elements from both tennis and squash and none from MMA and creates an experience all its own.  Also, the shorter racket and the ability to play the ball off the walls give the game a tactical edge that will keep you on your toes. Ultimately, it’s fast, fun, and furious!

2. Easy to Learn, Hard to Put Down

What makes Padel truly special is its accessibility. Even if you’re new to racquet sports, the learning curve is gentle, making it easy to jump into a game without needing extensive lessons beforehand. But don’t be fooled; there’s plenty of skill involved and plenty to improve on. Also, like anything in life, the more you play, the more you begin to see and appreciate the intricate strategies that can elevate your game. I walked onto the court for my first game, thinking it would be similar to tennis or squash, and yes, there are plenty of similarities. However, Padel has its own unique set of thrills which will keep me coming back time and time again! Honestly, I can’t wait to get back on the court!

3. Social, Engaging, and Fun

Padel is almost always played in doubles, which means it’s a naturally social game. Whether you’re playing with friends or meeting new people, the nature of the game fosters communication and teamwork. It’s a fantastic way to stay active while also building connections. This is one of the key reasons the sport has exploded in popularity worldwide; it’s fun and inclusive for players of all skill levels.

Padel in Frankfurt:  The Basics

1.  Court and Equipment:
    • Padel is typically played in doubles on a court smaller than a tennis court (10m x 20m), surrounded by glass walls and mesh fencing.
    • Players use solid rackets with small holes (no strings) and a tennis-like ball with slightly less pressure.
2.  Scoring System:
    • The scoring is almost identical to tennis: games consist of points (15, 30, 40, game), and sets are won by winning six games, with a two-game lead needed.
    • Matches are generally played in a best-of-three sets format.
3.  Serving:
    • The serve must be hit underhand and bounce within the opponent’s service box diagonally across the court.
    • The server has two attempts (first and second serve) to get the ball in play, similar to tennis.
4.  Ball in Play:
    • The ball must bounce on the ground before hitting the glass or fence.
    • Players can hit the ball off the walls, like squash, to keep the rally going.
    • The ball is out if it bounces twice before being hit or if it directly hits the mesh or goes out of bounds.
5.  Winning a Point:
    • Points are won when the opposing team fails to return the ball, if it bounces twice on their side, or if the ball hits the mesh or goes out of the court.
