Charity Auction RESULTS: how much did we raise?
So, it’s safe to say that 2020 was not smooth sailing and silver linings were pretty hard to come by! Having said that, we do have one particular silver lining that we are dying to share with you, our TFE Charity Auction.
As some of you may know, in the run up to Christmas us together with the generosity of some incredible local brands and businesses hosted a charity auction.
Who was it in aid of? And, who are they?
So, as a women led business, we felt we’d like to focus on a local charity that helps women (this time). With this in mind, we chose Lilith Wohnen für Frauen.
Lilith is a local women’s charity who provides support and care for homeless and vulnerable women. They provide a clean and safe living environment with the intention to serve as a stepping stone for women to safely get back on their feet. Ultimately they facilitate and provide all the necessary tools to help these women achieve independence and stability again. They provide resources to find suitable counselling and therapy, financial advice and guidance, job search assistance and most importantly a fighting chance.
Often ‘homeless and vulnerable’ conjure up images of drug addicts and women begging on the street corner with nothing than a blanket and used paper coffee cup. The reality is far more nuanced than that. Many of the women are like you and me, however circumstances have not been kind and they have fallen on hard times. Many move from sofa to sofa or bed to bed continuously putting themselves into unsavoury situations and harms way.
To summarise, Lilith Wohnen für Frauen provide women hope and a fighting chance!!
So, how much did we manage to Raise from the TFE Charity Auction?
We are absolutely delighted to say that we raised €1202. Also, every cent raised from the Auction has gone directly to Lilith!
Last but definitely not least! Who were our Generous Donors?
The Homesick Project: Emily Dyan Ibarra
Homesick, what is the definition of homesick? According to Webster it’s experiencing a longing for one’s home during a period of absence from it. Now I’m sure we’ve all felt this longing once or twice in our lives. Longing for home means it meant something to you, it moulded you in one way or another and it also means you bring a piece of home with you, wherever you go. It’s quite beautiful really.
Our second guest in our homesick project series is photographer and social media expert, Emily Dyan Ibarra. Emily, a fellow American like myself, misses the familiarities of home but loves the European lifestyle, it’s ease, and openness. We chat about her background, her photography photographing parkour athletes, her experience here in Frankfurt and what she misses about home.
Read on to find out more about this uber cool photographer.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF? WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I fell in love with photography as a child. My grandfather was a hobbyist photographer and being the first grandchild, I was photographed a lot. He passed away when I was 5, but I was given his SLR camera when I was 12 years old. I also was very active as a kid. I started gymnastics at 3 years old, become a competitive gymnast by 8 years old, started springboard diving in college and danced and did cheerleading in-between. So I was both active and creative growing up.
I started taking photography more seriously in college. I was assisting commercial photographers and applying everything I was learning to my friends. My friends all happened to be in bands, this was when Myspace was getting big, and photos were in demand, so this grew my reach as more bands wanted images. I spent my twenties hanging out with musicians and touring with bands. It was amazing. This eventually led me to Los Angeles. After answering a craigslist ad, I was introduced to the world of parkour and freerunning. My acrobatics background really helped from behind the camera and sometimes just getting from location to location.

YOU’RE A PHOTOGRAPHER, A FILMMAKER AND YOU ALSO WORK WITH YOUR HUSBAND, THE GREAT JASON PAUL. TELL US ABOUT THIS?
Boyfriend. We aren’t married, but we do have a child together and creatively work together. He is my muse, lover, co-parent, and technically my boss. I do social media and marketing for his parkour clothing brand, Team Farang. I was in LA when I met Jason through mutual friends. We had a blast shooting and traveling the world together for 5 years before deciding to start a family. We intended to make Frankfurt our home base and keep traveling with our daughter, but this pandemic has altered our plans so far. However, I am very grateful to be sorted in Germany.

HOW HAS MOVING TO FRANKFURT CHANGED YOU?
I own more shoes than I ever have, probably since high school. I try to be a minimalist but having a home generally changes you when you’ve been on the road for so long.
It’s been a lot of adulting to get everything sorted to German standards but it’s been worth it. I feel rooted and stable. Also, I don’t feel like I have to fear something happening like getting injured or sick and being in debt for the rest of my life. I feel like I have less worry than I would even if I was doing the same thing in the USA.
WHAT OBSTACLES HAVE YOU FACED SINCE LIVING HERE IN FRANKFURT? WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF YOUR VICTORIES?
Colder weather is a challenge for me since I grew up in California. During the sweltering days of summer the lack of air conditioning. Mild obstacles, I know. I still stress out when I have to quickly pack my groceries at the store, and I am totally reliant on Jason to answer my mail and top up my phone monthly. I had to learn the hard way that your name has to be on your mailbox for documents to arrive. And I’m getting over the fact that just because we didn’t become instant friends doesn’t mean you’ll never be best friends, eventually, in Germany.
I feel like not having a car is a victory. Whenever I arrive at my destination on my own and on time is a victory for me personally. The food quality is a victory and the ability to shop at some of these farmer markets and local butchers and farms. I’m a bit obsessed with food.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE JUST MOVED TO FRANKFURT?
The best advice I’ve received was from an uber driver in San Francisco, “don’t try to rebuild the life you had somewhere else. Make it new and its own. ” This has truly helped me appreciate so many things that I didn’t have in California, instead of dwelling on what I couldn’t recreate. For example, in about 5 minutes, I can walk to get my hair cut, get a cup of coffee, and eat a pastry. Local groceries are driven and sold to me out of a truck. I sit down and order lasagna ice cream. These are things I didn’t have in California.
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE SPOT IN FRANKFURT?
I love coffee shops because wherever I travel, that is how I explore: Soulmate, Espresso Espresso, Holy Cross, Sugar Mama, Hoppenworth & Ploch, Ohiem, Aniis, Melhwassersalz, Brühmarkt, Pause. You have already covered most of these in The Frankfurt Edit, LOL.
I found Thai and Turf Steakhouse is open really late for Geman standards, and it was a lifestyle during my pregnancy.
Right now, I love delivery from Stadt Salat and Jing Jing Asia Restaurant.
I know this wasn’t a dining question, but I made it into one.

FOR THOSE VISITING OR NEW TO FRANKFURT, WHERE WOULD YOU TELL THEM TO GO?
I would tell them to go to the flea market by the river on Saturdays. It can be exciting to see things that you might not see from your own country. You can get a warm orange juice or a coffee and a crepe, walk around, maybe have a frikadelle from the Schwenker and check out a few museums. The Palmengarten and walking around Kleinmarkthalle for lunch. If they come in the summer, having a picnic at the swimming parks was so cool to me, like a cross between a wholesome version of raging waters and our neighborhood cabana club. And sitting out by the river or hanging out by the skatepark.

WHAT DO YOU MISS, ABOUT HOME? AND ALL THE PLACES YOU HAVE TRAVELLED TOO?
I miss my family. I miss the burritos. I miss Wholefoods and Target; I miss the convenience of it all and feeling familiarity. I miss going to the beach, and I miss being in the desert; I love Joshua Tree. I miss the vending machines in Japan and the chaos and friendliness of Bangkok.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MISSING HERE IN FRANKFURT?
Frankfurt is missing buttered, salted popcorn in their movie theaters.
Kombucha on tap. And a better selection of coconut water.
IS THERE A PLACE HERE IN FRANKFURT THAT REMINDS YOU OF HOME?
No, but sometimes i go to McDonald’s just to taste something nostalgic.

Dr Jaglas
- Maca Ginseng Elixir. The Maca Ginseng Elixir lies powerful and finely balanced on the tongue. Its note is bitter-sweet and lies in the middle of these taste dimensions. The long finish is underlined by a nutty nuance. After several weeks of ripening, maca and ginseng roots, selected tinctures and essences, etc. made from gentian, cinchona bark, ginger root, cardamom, citrus root, cloves, bitter orange peel, juniper berries, centaury, cinnamon bark, galangal root, camphor, lavender, valerian, citronella, angelica root and a touch of saffron combined to create the balanced heart. The origin, purity and content (e.g. bitter substances, essential oils) of all herbs are precisely defined here. The standardized high demands on the roots, bark and flowers, which are gently macerated in the pharmacy, are even certified according to German Pharmacopoeia quality.
- It is suitable pure (as a digestif), with a few ice cubes (as an aperitif) or as a base for drinks e.g. with tonic or instead of Campari in the Negroni. It is important to “roll” slowly in the front of the mouth – as in a wine tasting.

Bottle size: 500ml
RRP: €48
PRODUCT INFORMATION:
Odor profile: The odor palette of Ink Gin begins with subtle floral notes, which are
replaced by clear juniper and fresh citrus notes. In the end, a gentle and unobtrusive
sweetness with earthy-leathery notes can be perceived. Taste profile: The ink gin is a very soft gin with a full aroma and a pleasant and smooth texture.
The taste profile is complex and multilayered due to the phased development of the aromas on the tongue. Initially clear juniper with slightly floral hints. Followed by citrusnotes, which are dominated by orange. Then an earthy-woody composition, brought about by thesweet and sandalwood. In the finish, the acacia blossom completes the bouquet and gives the gin its final touch with a long aromatic aftertaste. When filled with tonic, the special, complex and mild bouquet unfolds.
Tonic recommendation: Fever-Tree Indian (also suitable: Goldberg / Dr. Polidori’s Dry / Fentimans Tonic Water) Mixing ratio: long drink glass – ¾ full of ice, 5cl gin ink, fill up with tonic according tothe desired intensity (we recommend 150ml)

The YAKRIS ‘Carry On’ lanyards are not like all lanyards. They are made from original vintage kimono accessories and are therefore mostly made of silk. They are approx. 70-80 cm long, very robust, and you can carry keys – or, in the current situation, masks. They are sustainable and unique at the same time. They make a great gift for friends, family and yourself. Mainly silk. Since the material is vintage, discoloration may be seen.

YAKRIS silk bracelets are truly unique. Made from old Japanese silk kimonos and decorated with selected pendants made of real sterling silver. Our pendants vary from travel symbols, zodiac signs to love symbols. We wear them as a friendship band, family band, partner band or just for ourselves. They really fit every occasion. They are also a very special gift for children and young people. The bracelets are extremely robust. If you wear them permanently, they may fall off in a few years – if you believe in them, the wish that came to mind when you first tied the ribbon will come true.

Dr. Jaglas
For decades, the Jagla family of pharmacists has been producing a high-percentage bitters with the name Kloster-Elixir based on a medieval monastery recipe. The bitter herbs once grew in monastery gardens and were especially valued after rich meals. Already in the days of the great-grandparents’ colonial goods store Max Jagla, the monastery elixir was very popular as a house specialty with friends, family and regular customers and was carefully refined.
AUCTION ITEM:
Dr. Jaglas Maca Ginseng – Elixir
The Maca Ginseng Elixir was developed as a special edition for DIE ZEIT, where it was sold exclusively for a few weeks. This handmade Amaro with 35% vol is the further development of the ginseng elixir, which has been expanded to include the nutty maca roots. Maca roots are also known as Peru Ginseng and are found in the upper elevations of the Peruvian Andes. Due to the extreme climatic conditions, they have become robust roots with high resistance over the centuries. They have always been used both as food and as a medicinal plant.
Character:
How to Drink:
It is suitable pure (as a digestif), with a few ice cubes (as an aperitif) or as a base for drinks e.g. with tonic or instead of Campari in the Negroni. It is important to “roll” slowly in the front of the mouth – as in a wine tasting.

Charity Auction for Lilith – Wohnen für Frauen
We all need a safe space, and for many of us that space is our homes! For some women however, this is not the case. The lockdown has made this more apparent as we retreat into our homes away from COVID-19. This is also a key driving force behind our decision to support a local women’s charity with our auction this year.
The Frankfurt Edit values community and has had it at the core of our business from the very beginning. We have used our platform to provide information and resources to those in our community. As this last year has brought changes and hardships for many, we feel it’s time we use our platform to give back. We are hosting an auction to raise funds for a worthy cause. All the funds will be directly donated to noteworthy charity, Lilith-Wohnen für Frauen. The hope? To help some of the most vulnerable and severely impacted by this unforgiving 2020.
Our Goal: to raise as much money as possible to go to Lilith – Wohnen für Frauen
In the run up to Christmas we are hosting a virtual auction with all proceeds going to Lilith – Wohnen für Frauen. Of course, none of this would be possible without the sheer generosity of primarily local businesses (the most farthest afield being from Berlin) All items being showcased in the auction have been donated by these businesses.
How can you help?
The stage is set and the pieces in place! So, with this in mind, we only ask that while you do your Christmas shopping you consider bidding for an item or two. Open your hearts (and your wallet 😬). Undoubtedly exhilarating Christmas shopping that feels good!
Who is Lilith – Wohnen für Frauen Women’s Charity?
Lilith is a local women’s charity who provides support and care for homeless and vulnerable women. They provide a clean and safe living environment with the intention to serve as a stepping stone for women to safely get back on their feet. Ultimately they facilitate and provide all the necessary tools to help these women achieve independence and stability again. They provide resources to find suitable counselling and therapy, financial advice and guidance, job search assistance and most importantly a fighting chance.
Often ‘homeless and vulnerable’ conjure up images of drug addicts or the woman you see begging on the street corner with nothing but a blanket a used coffee cup.
If you would like to help further:
- currently donations of warm clothing and jackets would be greatly appreciated (Preferably Large sizes)
- Also any donations for the kitchen ie pots and pans would be helpful
AUCTION INFORMATION:
Start: Saturday 12th December 12am
End: Friday 18th Friday 5pm

For: Lilith- Wohnen für Frauen
All products in the auction have been kindly donated from all local businesses and brands in the area. We couldn’t be more grateful!!!! So Please set your alarms and tell all your friends about this amazing auction!
Notabag, innovative and sustainable baggage
Notabag, a brand with a focus on innovation and something close to our hearts, sustainability!
The Notabag Story
As Benjamin Franklin said ‘Out of adversity comes opportunity’. A statement that perhaps rings true with Notabag founder Adnan Alicusic. The story goes that he was cycling home one day, a plethora of grocery bags precariously handing from his handle bars, when he narrowly avoided an accident. A story none to familiar to many, he set about finding a solution. Subsequently, he together with Ilaria Gregianin brought the original tote bag-backpack hybrid to the market.
Their Philosophy
Somewhat ahead of the curve, Notabag’s beginnings were long before the ‘carry your own reusable grocery bags with you’ was a thing. And, still today we have yet to come across one that is a multipurpose as this one. Often times, your reusable grocery bags looks just like that, REUSED and A GROCERY BAG.
Along with making eco-conscious choices all along the supply chain they also choose to collaborate with small factories who implement good working conditions for staff.
Innovation
In addition to their the eco-conscious and sustainability commitments they also have a passion for innovation! Not ones to sit back on their laurels they continue to push forward with new products and new ideas! A particularly fantastic product is their duffel bag! Without a doubt one of the best solutions to the ‘yogi with a mat’ debacle! Honestly, many yoga bags out there today still appear to believe we all live in the Himalayas and require nothing but a mat when leaving the house! To clarify, often without even so much as a tiny pouch for your keys!

Christmas Decorations: the good, the awesome and downright spectacular
Can you believe it’s almost advent!!!! OMG how did this year go sooo fast??!!!! Saying that, thank god this year has flown by because it couldn’t go fast enough. Christmas may be a bit different this year. Many of us will not have the opportunity to travel home to see our families. We are forced to stay where we are at. But this does not mean Christmas is ruined. No sir, it means we have the opportunity to create our own traditions. This year we must be grateful for what we can do and give thanks for having our health.
This also does not mean we have to turn into a bunch of grinches and shut the curtains and stay in bed. It means we need to celebrate more!!!! Let’s give a big ole middle finger to Corona and deck out our houses so much that corona will want to run away forever!!!!!!
Also, this year our local businesses need our love more than ever. So let’s buy all our decorations local this year.
We have compiled our top five shops where you can buy the most beautiful Christmas decorations.
Happy Local Shopping!

They also have a wonderful selection of cool Christmas decor, especially ornaments for the tree. Every holiday season we take the kids and stand in front of the window and pick out our favourites! So head on over and get yourself some cool decor this Christmas!

NOORD
Now I’m not gonna lie here, NOORD has an amazing selection of local gins. They are my go-to for a new gin!!!! But they also have such great home decor, gifts and Christmas decor too. You’ll find an array of beautiful hanging stars, pillows, candles and things for the tree. It also smells so nice when you walk in the door.

NIMA Lieblingsstücke für Groß und Klein –
My daughter and I pass Nima’s on the way to her school most days. We give ourselves some time to peep at the window as there’s always something nice to look at. This year Edith’s eyes widen as she saw herself a beautiful Christmas tree ornament hanging in the window. She asked if that could be her ornament for this year. Every year we buy a new special ornament. So we went back the other day and bought this gorgeous tree ornament. While having a browse around I noticed a beautiful selection of ornaments, Christmas decor and an amazing selection of candles, bright fun ones too!!!!! They also have the best gift selection.

Chicago Williams, American BBQ
Nothing screams red, white and blue cuisine quite like American BBQ! Namely, meat slathered in spices and slow-cooked over a log fire! The flavours are only intensified by the infusion of smokey notes that have seeped into the meat after hours of cooking. Along with being American, it’s a decidedly Southern way of cooking, with each state putting their individual spin on what is a holiday favourite. Typically, pig is the meat of choice, unless you are Texan that is, and then only BEEF will do. Now, regardless of the BBQ style, our carnivorous friends will be nothing but delighted with the Chicago Williams menu. We are talking pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, and BBQ chicken, followed by the side order of mac and cheese and cornbread! With American BBQ on offer, expect nothing less than relaxed Southern Charm. Animal-clad waiters cruise around the room, serving trays laden with meat so tender it can’t help but fall from the bone. To complete the look and feel, drinks are served in chilled Marbelesque beer mugs. An eight-metre (ish) long bar leads the eye to the belly of the restaurant, where simple wooden tables and chairs await. Furthermore, a large open kitchen greets you, allowing the curious to eyeball the preparation process! Unless you are asleep while reading this, you should have no doubt as to what is being served. But for the sake of clarity, meat platters laden with pulled pork, brisket, BBQ ribs, and BBQ chicken are your staples. Your side orders include cornbread, mac and cheese, mash and gravy and baked beans. Also don’t overlook the sandwiches, all generously filled with the aforementioned delectables. To sum up, this is any meat eater’s dream; however, whilst there are one or two vegan options, perhaps they would prefer somewhere else. Undoubtedly a brunch to remember and a brunch to repeat!! Not only are the espresso martinis deliriously good and the bacon rashers an inch thick but also the DJ spinning his decks takes this brunch to the next level!! Now if that doesn’t convince you, perhaps the promise of fried chicken waffles, salmon bagels and freshly baked biscuits might do the trick!

The Homesick Project: Carolina Terrazas-Kreuch
What is the Homesick Project?
Whether you’re an international or not living in a different city or a different country the transition can be tough. There are aspects of your home you wish you could have right here with you. Friends and family you wish you could bring with you. Now whilst moving away from your home country is an exciting adventure, it also comes with its challenges.
We’ve decided to talk with internationals living right here in Frankfurt about their experiences. Asking questions like, how they found settling in to this new city, learning the language, what they miss about their homes and what they love about their new home? We are excited to bring you a new story each month!
We also want to emphasis that being Homesick is not necessarily a negative feeling, but also a feeling of nostalgia, love and hope. Namely remembering all the good things.
Carolina Terraza-Kreuch
Our first guest is Carolina Terraza-Kreuch. Carolina is from Mexico and owns Caro‘s Blumen. She designs the most beautiful floral bouquets around. We are very excited to share her thoughts with you.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF? WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I come from Mexico and I am madly in love with flowers. I am mother to Clea Graciela, a lovely 8 month baby and my forever flower.
Also, I love being surrounded by my family and friends while sharing delicious food.
Meeting new people is something I truly enjoy. I would describe myself as a very empathic person and meeting people inspires me.
I have a Bachelor Degree in International Commerce, 10 years of experience in the Logistic Industry, Customs and Customer service. Before moving to Germany in 2012, I was happily working in Mexico and becoming an entrepreneur. However, having my own business was a dream. I had the perfect example at home, my Dad. An enthusiastic and creative person throughout his working life he owned a business for more than 40 years and was always passionate about starting new projects. There is no doubt I got this entrepreneurial spirit from him.
WHEN DID YOU START YOUR FLOWER BUSINESS AND HOW DID IT START?
I have always been interested and loved everything about fashion and interior design and flowers always caught my attention. There’s no doubt that flowers play an integral role in a graceful way in both industries.
It was 2008 when I signed up at a Floral Design Institute in Monterrey. When I had finished my course in 2011 I felt ready to start Caro’s Blumen. I was working and also running my own business in Mexico but everything stopped after moving to Germany in 2012.
When I had arrived in Frankfurt I began doing florals for friends and family. I wanted to start my business again but it wasn’t until 2017 that I finally overcame my fears and decided to get the registration of Caro’s Blumen as a small business.
Career satisfaction doesn’t come from what you do, it comes from who you get to be while you are doing it, and the beauty is who you get to be Is the real you
HOW HAS MOVING TO FRANKFURT CHANGED YOU?
The love of my life found me while studying in Monterrey in 2010 and two years later in 2012 I took the important decision to move to Germany and as many do left everything behind.
I have proved to myself that I am able to adapt to new situations and that living in a country completely different from mine is actually possible.
I am more resilient. I value my country, culture and traditions more than before. I don’t take them for granted anymore. I am grateful for discovering my culture and I keep it alive within me.
I am also more creative and I am so grateful for it.

WHAT OBSTACLES HAVE YOU FACED SINCE LIVING HERE IN FRANKFURT? WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF YOUR VICTORIES?
Obstacles
- Learning a new language ( still ), adapting to a new culture totally different from mine, getting used to a new lifestyle and the most terrible weather I have ever experienced in 2012, now is getting better lol.
- Job interviews in German and all those speaking mistakes that made me develop low self-esteem.
Victories
- 2014 I started to apply for jobs in Frankfurt and I got my very first job in Heidelberg. I became an expert in traveling by train when I was working in that beautiful city.
- I worked for almost 5 years for two companies and had the opportunity to improve my German. I am not afraid of having a job interview in German anymore, lol.
- Working as a Florist in a foreign country
- I got my driving license and passed the test ( all in German ).
- I feel happy and complete!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE JUST MOVED TO FRANKFURT?
Learn the language and practice a hobby in German. It is good to meet new people and make new friends. This helps to extend your social and career network while you improve your speaking and listening skills.
Do not be afraid of speaking and be patient.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE SPOT IN FRANKFURT?
I love walking around the Schweizer Strasse, Oderweg and Berger Strasse.
I visit Tía Emma, a small concept store from time to time and have a coffee there. I just love it there, one will always find something to buy. It is beautiful.
I also enjoy visiting the Kleinmarkethalle. I buy my Mexican ingredients there.
FOR FRIENDS VISITING OR THOSE NEW TO FRANKFURT WHERE WOULD YOU TELL THEM TO GO?
To my women, I will suggest joining the Facebook group Gone Girl Frankfurt, I love it and I have met very interesting and lovely ladies.
Enjoy the parks in the Frankfurt area, have a walk in Sachsenhausen and try the German Restaurants, l love german food.
Visit the summer festivals in Frankfurt, they are pretty good.
Visit the Kleinmarkethalle, worth it!
Visiting the surroundings of Frankfurt: Eltville and Bergstrasse are very pretty.
WHAT DO YOU MISS ABOUT MEXICO?
I miss my family and close friends, the traditions, the colors and the huge food and flower markets (Jamaica Market for instance).
Buying food and snacks on the streets, like in every corner of Mexico, you will find the most delicious food ever.
Sundays in Mexico, the Sun, the Sea.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MISSING HERE IN FRANKFURT?
My family. I wish I could have them here.
IS THERE A PLACE HERE IN FRANKFURT THAT REMINDS YOU OF HOME?
When I visit some friends in Frankfurt or they come to me, we cook together Mexican food. This makes me feel at home.
Listening to Natalia Lafourcade, Cafe Tacuba, Ely Guerra, Zoe transports me to Mexico!
Also going to La Taqueria Bulli Burrito or Tacohaus, it feels good and the taste is awesome.

Art Exhibition Frankfurt, Kunsthoch3
Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ― Pablo Picasso
A quote that couldn’t be more relevant for today and the current climate we are living in! Undoubtedly we could all use a little washing of the dust from our souls and perhaps an escape from our pandemic ridden reality, even if only for a moment! Until the 1st of November you have the opportunity to have 3 incredible artists Cornè Theron, Jens-Christian Wittig and William Sweetlove do just that for you!
Art Exhibition Details
Date: 23 October – 1 November
Opening Hours: 11am – 7pm (except Monday and Tuesday)
Place: Große Eschersheimer Str.16, 60313, Frankfurt am Main
Entrace: Free
Brought to you by: The Travelling Art Gallery
Cornè Theron
With her first international exhibition, Cornè Theron brings us ‘AMA’. A fourteen piece exhibit drawing inspiration from the short film by free diver, Julie Gautier
With a personal endorsement from Artsy CEO Mike Steib it’s hard to believe how incredibly humble Theron remains. Furthermore, she has a calming energy and air about her, you instantly want to be friends with her. This energy translate into her artworks which draw you in and force you to interact with them!
Jens-Christian Wittig
Jens-Christian Wittig, is ‘big’ not only in stature (he towers well above the average man) but also in personality! His vivid artworks are produced using the latest and most complex digital technology which allow him to capture colours unattainable through any other means! The exceptional vibrancy in the colours and imagery almost burn through into the soul. Some of the images have a 3D quality to them further intensifying the viewing experience.
William Sweetlove
With a pack of bottle wearing animals staring you down the message couldn’t be more clear! There is nothing subtle about Sweetloves approach, his intention to draw light on subjects such as climate change, overconsuption and mass production. To convey his message Sweetlove beautifully combines Dadaism, surrealism and pop art creating sculptures that whilst dealing with complex topics truly delighted the inner child within me!
To summarise, we highly recommend a trip to the exhibition and perhaps with any of the ‘spare pennies’ lying around definitely pick yourself up a collectors piece!

Books That Actually Help
I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately. Mainly books about helping one find their way. Also, if you follow me on instagram you may already know I’ve been going through a change, I’ve been on a spiritual journey and hoping to find my true purpose in life. Of course, some may think this is ridiculous, perhaps others might find me erratic and all over the place, well maybe I am ????. Having said that however, I truly don’t believe there’s any point to living a life that’s not actually yours. Life begins when you start living your own life, the life you were meant to live. Once you break away from all the preconceived and engrained belief systems, that’s when you start to awaken. It’s a long process but a freeing one.
Recently I mentioned on instagram some books I have been reading and I wanted to list them here. Some I have only just started reading so I’ll have to keep you posted. I hope some of these books resonate and help you as much as they have helped me.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle
My sister recommended this book and OMG has it opened my eyes. I cried, laughed and had some wow moments, like the light bulb finally went off in my head. It’s basically a book about Glennon untucking herself and telling her story about finally coming into her own. She gives so much amazing advice. An absolute must read.
Human Design by Chetan Parkyn
A friend of mine messaged me on instagram and said do you know your Human Design? I think you’re probably a reflector. I was like no I do not know my human design so I jumped on to google and found out. I went to Jovian Archive to find out my type. I’m actually a Generator. If you are interested in Human Design I highly recommend this book. I’ll be doing a whole post on this soon.
Ask and it is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks
I’m still reading this, but a friend recommended it. It’s about changing your mindset from negativity to positivity and asking for what you want. It’s a powerful book.
Use Your Planets Wisely by Jennifer Freed, PHD
Astrology I’m totally into it and I’m learning more. It’s not just about your star signs but the planets too. I’ve just started diving into this. I’ll keep you updated.
The Money is Coming by Sarah Akwisombe
I took Sarah’s Manifesting and Money course and I did find it very helpful. It’s about finding out what you want, knowing what you want and applying it. It was a lot of changing your mindset towards money. This book goes into more detail about how she went from making no money to making loads just by believing she could do it.
Aping Mankind by Raymond Tallis
If you’re into psychology and want to dive in deeper than read this. I’m just about to start it, but it was recommend by my therapist as I’m interested in learning more about neuroscience. Tallis examines why humans are more than Darwins theory. Each human is unique.
Finally you may want to take a read of my article on ‘fitting in’
Lilith, organic skincare in Frankfurt
Lilith, is a beautiful space bringing you a host of natural and organic skincare in Frankfurt. Firstly, we just love how Bianca takes inspiration from mythological Lilith. However Google ‘Lilith’, and you are met with a barrage of different theories and of course it is for you to decide on which side you err – trail blazer or demon? Thankfully, Astrology appears to offer a far more simple yet powerful definition: ‘Lilith represents the dark side of femininity, sexual taboo and social transgression. She represents both mind and matter.’ Now whilst we can delve deeper into folklore and mythology and debate all day we choose not to. Instead, what we take from it is this, Lilith the store is for women who are empowered, women who know their mind and body and women who are not afraid to be whomever they choose rather than what society dictates. And as we all know, being this insanely brilliant woman requires excellent skin ???? Secondly, Bianca is originally from Corsica and has a long family history of involvement with organic and natural essential oils, so we have it on pretty good authority she knows a thing or two of what she’s talking. Finally, her dream has been to have a natural and organic skincare store in Frankfurt and of course that dream is now a reality and we could not be more delighted! Located in Westend, the store has beautiful clean lines and a large marble countertop that commands the main floor, it draws you in and makes you feel instantly calm! Also, the store space embodies what it sells, no added nasties, no false promises (but often times amazing free gifts) and most importantly they want to make a difference! A highly curated range of brands line the shelves of Lilith. Each one needing to meet the high standards that Bianca sets for products she believes will benefit her clientele. To name but a few you’ll find, Fine, The Organic Pharmacy, John Masters Organics, Nailberry, Madara and Alma baby range

Frankfurt Staycation??
Frankfurt Staycation? One word…do it (ok that’s two words). Why?? Well if you’re anything like us, you love your family but sometimes you’d quite like to shower without an audience, go out for a meal without asking for the kids menu or simply have someone else make your bed when you leave!
So summer holidays have been and gone and another vacation is upon us! Also, unless you’ve been living under rock (and perhaps that was the smart option) you’ll know that due to COVID it’s still pretty safe to assume that far off lands are still remaining far off – sigh! Having said that, what’s that old saying ‘a change is as good as a holiday’? And we have some great suggestions for getaways that are literally on your doorstep!
Staycation perks:
- minimal organisation (last minute is totally doable)
- minimal packing (I mean your handbag will almost do)
- Splurge at the Spa or the Bar
- Find a sitter and leave the kids (literally a phone call or street away)
What do we recommend for a Frankfurt Staycation?
Ok so technically a staycation defined means no overnight stays! But who are we kidding, everyone deserves a little change of scenery and perhaps a little peace and quiet! We try to mix it up a bit with things to do with the family and of course with the girls/boys and your significant other.
Night away with the girls
- The Lindley Lindenberg: all you need is a basic room and a change of underwear ???? (read our Staycation experience)
- The Suite Fabric: the rooms are so spacious and each have a kitchen so you never need to leave (read our Staycation experience )
Family day trips and excursions
- The Homesick Project is great read for a little inspiration
- Doing all the things in Frankfurt that you just never have the time to do! Take the time, be a tourist in your city
- Do a coffee tour and walk through Frankfurt
- Frankfurt on Foot also offer an incredibly insightful view on the city
Romantic Night away
- Lindley Lindenberg: trade the basic room for a suite and have a beautiful dinner at Leuchtendroter restaurant
- The Suite Fabric: like we mentioned there is no need to leave the room
To summarise, we highly recommend a Frankfurt Staycation because well lets face it anything with minimal organisation is a win and who doesn’t enjoy a night away!

Dreilettercode, Jewellery from Frankfurt that tells a story
Dreilettercode is a beautiful minimalist jewellery brand from Frankfurt brought to us by Judith Marlene Jude. The collection is designed so that you are able to mix and match pieces as you like in order to tell your own personal story through your jewellery.
1. TELL US ABOUT DREI LETTER CODE?
When I was a child my grandma would bring me a pendant for my bracelet from each trip she did. Years later, running a shop for contemporary souvenirs in Frankfurt, I wanted to bring that memory to life. I longed to develop a jewellery collection in Frankfurt that fit the modern design of our shop products but I couldn’t find of anything suitable. It wasn’t until a few years later, when I went on a trip to Malta, that my idea would come to life. Back in Malta sitting on my balcony, watching the sunset and enjoying a glas of red wine, my eyes wandered across to my suitcase and stopped at the tag, “MLA”, that’s when it hit me. The idea of Dreilettercode was born. I couldn’t find anyone who was able to help me realise my idea the way I imagined. So, I had no other choice but to teach myself the art of goldsmithing and try out different things. Two years later my collection was finished. Unfortunately, by that time our Souvenir shop didn’t exist anymore. This is why I now sell my jewellery online.
The collection is intended to be simple and go well with other pieces of jewellery you already own. This way it can be mixed and matched and new pieces added as and when you like.
2. WHAT DOES DREI LETTER CODE MEAN TO YOU?
Dreilettercode is my playground. Generally speaking, I’m interested in stories or more specifically, memories. I’m definitely nostalgic. It’s such a broad field but perfect for me and my label to thrive in.
Im autodidact, not only when it comes to jewellery making. Through Dreilettercode I try to implement everything that brings me joy whilst simultaneously figuring out what I really enjoy. I recently discovered creative writing. There’s a column on my website called ” Viele Grüße – Many Greetings”. It contains old postcards that I discover at flea markets, containing stories that touched me or simply put a smile on my face. I now use these postcards to create short stories which is a lot of fun.
3. YOU HAVE A SERIES CALLED TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE AND YOU INTERVIEW PEOPLE AND TALK ABOUT THEIR FAVOURITE PLACES. DO YOU HAVE ONE INTERVIEW OR STORY THAT REALLY TOUCHED YOUR HEART?
This is a good example of something that I’ve always enjoyed doing and am now able to continue with my label. I love listening to people reminisce and stroll down memory lane. My column “Take a trip down memory lane” is about very personal stories. This may be a trip or holiday taken, a former home town or even a place of their own phantasy. Each memory is unique. This is something I’ve really taken away from each conversation. Also, my list of people I’d like to interview is still very long. Too bad there are only 24 hours in a day!
Actually, I did get one particular reaction to ”Take a trip down to Memory Lane” which is special to me. A former colleague of mine who used to work at the souvenir shop told me that “Souvenir Frankfurt” was a special place that shaped her. I put my heart and soul into that project so that really made me feel good! Unfortunately, she is a bit camera shy and I haven’t been able to convince her to take a trip down memory lane together. Maybe this will still happen, if not, I might just put it into a podcast.
4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SPOT IN FRANKFURT?
Phew!! It’s quite difficult to pin that down to one spot. I like Niddapark a lot because it’s huge and perfect to immerse myself in the Green.
5. FOR THOSE VISITING OR NEW TO FRANKFURT WHERE WOULD YOU TELL THEM TO GO?
Currently I’m quite drawn to nature, so instead of hip and trendy hotspots I prefer places where I can catch a breath of fresh air. I love the botanical gardens near Grüneburgpark. It’s close to where I live and for a moment it’s easy to forget that I’m still in the middle of the city. I also like the university campus Westend, especially the old “IG Farben” buildings and the fountain in the centre of it. Due to COVID, I exclusively met up with friends outdoors this summer. Fein Frankfurt is perfect for that.
To summarise, Dreilettercode is minimalistic jewellery from Frankfurt who allows each of us to tell our own story using three letters!

The Suite Fabric, a Modern boutique hotel
The Suite Fabric is a modern boutique hotel located on Hanauer Landstraße in Ostend. The Suite Fabric is the sister hotel of the famous The Suite Garden, which is located more centrally within the Innenstadt. The hotel is the brain child of Laura Heil and Hannah Chbib and more often than not you’ll find at least one of them at reception. Along with being incredibly hands on, the duo have created the perfect mixture of modern urbanity and culture diversity. In each room at Fabric you’ll find a neutral colour palette, their signature black canopy bed and soft furnishings that beautifully punctuate the space with small pops of colour. Furthermore, the canopy bed was a labour of love for Laura and Hannah who designed and created it specifically for the hotel. Each room, big or small has a self-service kitchen, a beautiful spacious bathroom and a main living room area. However, there is no standardised room floor plan each is uniques. With this in mind, some are designed more with a studio space in mind, whilst others have more of an apartment feel with separate closed off bedrooms. This modern boutique hotel is both relaxed and welcoming! Firstly, the lobby is a space that literally lifts your spirits the moment you walk in! Secondly, through the bold colours and the clever use of texture they create intimate ‘enclaves’ within their larger space. Meaning that each time you visit theres the opportunity for a new feel and experience! Finally, along with creating this wonderful space they have teamed up with Bohnerie to provide sublime coffee, no excuse not to pop in!!
